Interface Preferences:

The Interface tab in the Preferences allows you to set the Interface related preferences for SearchBar:

  • Foreground opacity: Specifies the opacity of the SearchBar palette when SearchBar is in the foreground.
  • Background opacity: Specifies the opacity of the SearchBar palette when SearchBar is in the background (the opacity is reset whenever the SearchBar application is put to the background). This setting applies only if the "Specify background SearchBar Panel Opacity button is checked, otherwise, the foreground opacity for background as well. If the opacity is set below 5% the SearchBar Palette will be hidden completely.
  • Window float: Check to have the SearchBar Palette float above all other windows. (default is off)
  • Vertical window : Check to use the SearchBar vertical window instead of the the horizontal one (default is horizontal). See the SearchBar Palette documentation for more information about the vertical window mode.
  • Flags: Check to have the flags displayed in the "Engines" menu of the SearchBar Palette. (default is on)
  • Dock icon : Check to have the icon displayed in the Dock. (default is on)
  • MenuBar icon:Check to have the icon displayed in the Menu Bar. (default is on)

HotKey Preferences:

The HotKey tab in the Preferences allows you to set the HotKey related preferences for SearchBar:

  • Use HotKey : Select this checkbox to use a hotkey.
  • Set HotKey : click this button to set the HotKey. Once you have clicked the button, you should just type the key combination you would like to use and it will appear in the box next to the button. (If you do not enter the key combo after 3 seconds, you will have to click the button again).

Note: if the HotKey does not work, check that the checkbox is selected.

Engines Preferences:

The Engines tab in the Preferences allows you to set the Engines related preferences for SearchBar:

  • Add (Separator): Click to add a Separator just above the currently selected engine.
  • Remove (Separator): Click to remove the selected Separator (only available if a Separator is selected).
  • Set (Shortcut): Click to set the shortcut associated with the currently selected engine (once you have clicked this button you have 3 seconds to just type the shortcut you'd like to use, beware of not assigning the same shortcut to multiple engines).
  • Remove (Shortcut): Click to remove the shortcut associated with the currently selected engine. (only available if the currently selected engine has a shortcut).
  • Move Up (Ordering): Moves the currently selected engine up (only available when an engine is selected).
  • Move Down (Ordering): Moves the currently selected engine down (only available when an engine is selected).
  • Sort Alpha... (Ordering): Sorts all engines alphabetically (beware, you cannot undo this action, and the separators will be put to the end of the list).
  • Infos... (Informations): Click to view more information about the selected engine. This button will bring up the about dialog.

Note: ordering can be accomplished simply by drag and drop.

Updates Preferences:

The Updates tab in the Preferences allows you to set the Updates related preferences for SearchBar:

  • Check for Updates automatically: Select to allow SearchBar to check for updates automatically (default is on).
  • Duration Popup Menu: Select the frequency of updates (Hourly, Daily, Weekly, Monthly) (default is weekly).
  • Check for Updates...: Click to Check for Updates right now. Clicking this button will bring up the PowerUpdate wizard that will guide you through the update process.
